Carbon Project Development Intern
A. Background on Nexus
Nexus is a nonprofit alliance of development organizations committed to using carbon finance to alleviate poverty and foster sustainable development. Nexus aims at facilitating access to carbon finance through a 3 pillar-structure:

Nexus alliance, for expertise transfer among members

Nexus fund, a vehicle for ethical investments

Nexus beyond offsetting , a fair trade platform for ethical carbon credits
Nexus head office is in Singapore, and desk offices serve as support in Cambodia, Mali and India.
Nexus currently has 15 members, spread out over 15 countries (mainly South Asia, South East Asia, and Western Africa).

C. Duties and Responsibilities
The internship will last for six months from May 2013. The internship will be based in Nexus' main office in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
A stipend is available during the internship and a return flight back home is provided.
Project Development
Project development is key to the success of Nexus and its members, it is where the projects take shape and where we assist our members in bringing their projects to validation, verification and ultimately receive carbon finance.
With support from Technical Director the intern will assist the Carbon Project Officer prepare Nexus member projects for carbon markets:
- Conduct baseline studies and tests (i.e. water boiling tests, kitchen tests)
- Perform statistical analysis
- Assist with the development of tools to increase efficiency in the development of projects
- Contributing to project documentation and monitoring reports
- Assist during the validation and verification of several projects
- Researching activities for Programme of Activities (PoA)
- Assist with collection of information for the screening of new projects
- Assist the CPO upgrade Nexus pre-screening and screening procedures
D. Profile
Experience
- At least 1 year’s professional experience with experience of working in developing countries desirable.
- Project management experience
- Practical knowledge of research methods
Education
- Master Degree, with relevant orientation in project management
Skills
- Strong interest in the development sector
- Interest and basic knowledge of Climate Change negotiations / carbon market
- Good time management
- Strong background in research methods
- Professional proficiency in English
Personal quality
- Preference for Cambodian nationals, and people from developing countries
- At ease in working in a small start-up structure
- Able to operate in a multicultural environment
- High level of autonomy at work, yet with team-spirit
- Adaptive, patient, resilient and flexible
- Pro-active and solutions oriented
